Sheep Soap

Its important to care for your finished knit and crochet items the right way. Even superwash yarns last longer and look better when gently handwashed with our Sheep Soap liquid wool wash. Sheep Soap is much gentler than most commercial detergents and, unlike detergents and soaps that aren't made specifically for wool, won't leave an icky scum on your delicate items, even if it isn't rinsed out completely. We recommend filling up a sink or basin with room temperature water (whatever is comfortable for your hands), diluting about a tablespoon of Sheep Soap (I just squirt a bit in, its not necessary to be very precise!) in the water and then gently swishing your knit or crocheted items in the water. Allow it to soak for half an hour or so, occasionally swishing it to loosen any dirt (a long soak won't do any damage). You will probably see the water change color, letting you know how much dirt and grime has come out of your project. If your item is really dirty you may need to soak it a second time! Once you are satisfied that its clean, drain the water and gently squeeze any excess water out. Don't twist or wring your project or hang it to dry- this can stretch the fibers and cause your project to be mishapen or even damaged. To speed up the drying process you can roll your project in a bath towel and squeeze or step on the roll. Block, if necessary, and lay flat to dry.

Sheep Soap can also be diluted in water and used in a spray bottle for blocking-- no rinsing necessary!

Our Sheep Soap is made with simple, natural materials and can be used on all your delicate fibers. It can even be used as a soap for people and dogs (not cats though, as the are more sensitive to the essential oils used). Sheep Soap contains saponified olive oil (i.e. castille soap) and essential oils. We like to experiment and sometimes include lanolin and/or castor oil.
