Hawkesdene House is very flexible and I’ve been a bit overwhelmed with all the food choices but hopefully I’ve chosen things that everyone will be able to enjoy. If you have any special dietary concerns that you haven’t told me about yet, please email me at laura@theuniquesheep.com. Also, if you are vegetarian please let me know so we can plan for you!

Workshops

Dyeing Yarn
Instructor: Laura & Kelly
Description: Dye your own yarn or roving with the help of professional dyers, Laura & Kelly!
Materials Fee: varies depending on which yarns you pick and how many skeins you want to dye, prices for undyed skeins are listed here. Mini skeins of assorted base yarns will be available to practice with.

Knitting with Gradiance Yarns
Instructor: Laura & Kelly
Description:Learn how to knit with Gradiance yarns by knitting a simple headband.
Materials Fee: none

Mosaic Knitting
Instructor: Susan Pandorf
Description: Mosaic Knitting forms vibrant color designs that look like fair isle or intarsia, but use only one strand of yarn at a time, by slipping stitches - no stranding, no bobbins, no changing yarns in mid-row. It's simple and the design possibilities are endless.  Using a multicolor yarn palette, the "shadow" technique, and an ingenious folding process produces a design of vibrant and deceptive complexity for minimal effort.

Materials Fee: Participants in class will have the option of purchasing yarn for Susan's "Bag End" felted bag from the Fellowship of the Ring Collection , or a small multicolor change purse design that coordinates with it. Those who do not want to purchase yarn may swatch in odds and ends of Anna’s Yarn provided by Unique Sheep. Directions for home felting and finishing of the piece will be provided. Kits for the Bag End bag or change purse can be purchased here!

Painting with Wool
Instructor: Jan Bullins
Description: Learn the basics of needle felting while creating your own wallhanging. Bring a photo to use as inspiration or rely on your own creativity!

Introduction to Spinning
Instructor: Jan Bullins
Description: Learn the basics of spinning on a drop spindle!
Materials Fee: Drop spindles will be available to borrow or purchase. Scraps of roving in different colors and fibers will be provided to practice with and you can also pre-order roving in any of our colors and fibers to be delivered at the retreat!

Retreat guests can order these two special colorways, Blue Ridge Mountains and Autumn at Hawkesdene, on any of our base yarns to be picked up at the retreat. Use our regular yarn menu to order your yarn but select "Club Membership" for the shipping option so that you aren't charged for shipping.
