KAL Begins July 17th.
Pattern by Janine le Cras.
Our next KAL is inspired by the classic tales of King Arthur and his court as told in The Once and Future King. While there have many retellings of the Arthurian legends, these stories by T.H.White are the most familiar to most of us. The Disney movie, The Sword in the Stone, which was the first introduction many of us had to King Arthur and Camelot, was based off of the first part of The Once and Future King. In finding inspiration for the shawl and colorways we have been looking at the text of The Once and Future King but also exploring the legends of King Arthur in other ways, from fantasy novels to modern TV shows to paintings both classic and contemporary.
Please sign up no later than June 17th in order to ensure that your order will arrive before the KAL start date! Beads must be ordered before June 17th.
Bead Requirements: 345 size 8/0 beads plus 24 of the 3x10mm daggers.
This rectangular shawl is designed for lace weight yarn and can be knit in any of our lace weight bases. You can choose a regular colorway or one of our Gradiance colorways.
The pattern will be emailed to you in pieces. On the first day you'll receive the instructions for the first part of the pattern. In the following weeks you'll receive the rest of the pattern, bit by bit. But you won't see a finished picture of the shawl until the very end!
Any colorway can be ordered for this KAL but here are a few that we picked out that remind us of the colors associated with The Once and Future King! We picked out some colors that remind us of royalty and others that bring to mind the Lady of the Lake and the isle of Avalon.
Janine le Cras has also designed our other mystery shawl KAL patterns inspired by The Secret Garden, The Enchanted Wood, Moonfleet,Through the Looking Glass, The Little Mermaid, The Phoenix and the Carpet, The Jungle Book, The Little Prince, The Spirit of Guernsey, Robin Hood, Treasure Island, Watership Down, Peter Pan, Wind in the Willows, Oliver Twist and The Snow Queen.
