Lady of Shalott
A Faroese Shawl to Crochet

Four grey walls, and four grey towers

Overlook a space of flowers

And the silent isle embowers

The Lady of Shalott

-Alfred, Lord Tennyson, The Lady of Shalott

Designed by Elizabeth Nicole Designs
Sample shown in Winemaker's Sister on Green Sheep Fingering

Vivid imagery in Tennyson's The Lady of Shalott tells of an imprisoned weaver's drab existence, broken only by the flashes of color she sees in her mirror, which she interprets into her weaving. The neck-down crocheted Lady of Shalott shawl has shaping similar to Celtic knitted, Faroese-style shawls. Increases in the airy panels on either side of the work and along the more solid center gusset result in a beautiful accessory that stays on easily with or without a shawl pin.

Yarn: 1,100 yards of fingering weight yarn (sample shown in Green Sheep Fingering)
