Ravelry and Plurk One of our favorites things about being in this business is being able to get to know so many people in the fiber arts community, especially all of our customers. But since we sell online rather than in a bricks and mortar store, we rarely get to meet any of you face to face. Thankfully, the internet has provided us with two great alternatives- Ravelry and Plurk. Ravelry is THE online knitting/crochet community. If you aren't a member, you should be. We set up discussion boards there for all of our clubs. And one of the best parts of Ravelry is that you can look up a pattern, for example the Autumn Gold Shawl, and see what other members have made. Its a great way to see how a pattern will look in a different color or yarn, or on a person with a body shaped more like your own! On Ravelry, Kelly uses the name "TheUniqueSheep" and Laura goes by "Painty" Plurk is an online community that isn't specific to knitting, but because we have so many knitting "friends" using it, it feels like one big knitting group! We recently hosted our first Knit-a-Long/ Plurk-a-Long and it was a great success so we look forward to doing more. On Plurk Kelly goes by "Kelly E" and Laura goes by "Painty". Its not quite as good as sitting down on a comfy couch with a pot of tea and chatting while we knit together, but we enjoy it and feel like we get to know you a little bit better! |
