The Little Mermaid Mystery KAL

"Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower, and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep..."

The Little Mermaid KAL is a mystery lace knitting club. Janine le Cras designed a stunning circular shawl for our first mystery KAL club, The Secret Garden and a triangular shawl for The Enchanted Wood, a lace weight rectangular wrap using the classic story Moonfleet as inspiration and then a cozy faroese shawl based on the imagery of Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. Now Janine has designed an elegant square shawl inspired by Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid.

This shawl is designed for either fingering weight or lace weight yarn and can be knit in Eos, Luxe, Tinsel Toes, Sushi Socks, Verve, Greensheep Fingering, Green Sheep Cotton Bamboo Fingering or Pashmi, Marici Lace, Ling or Marici Fingering (for an extra charge). You can choose a regular colorway or one of our Gradiance colorways. You also have the option of including beads. We will be using high quality beads supplied by Earth Faire and will pick out a color that will coordinate with the colorway you choose. Or, you can supply your own beads (bead requirements TBA).

Sign up now and your yarn will be shipped in time for the start date of March 11. The pattern will be emailed to you in pieces. On the first day you'll receive the instructions for the first part of the pattern. In the following weeks you'll receive the rest of the pattern, bit by bit. But you won't see a finished picture of the shawl until the very end!

We'd love to have you join us on this knitting adventure!

Announcements and conversation will take place on the Ravelry group board so please join us there! The designer (Janine le Cras) and the dyers (Kelly Eells and Laura Lough) will be active on the Ravelry board as well as on Plurk to answer questions about the pattern and cheer you on!

If you'd like to add beads to your shawl, you'll need a very thin crochet hook.

KAL membership can also be purchased through Earth Faire.

You can find the free text of The Little Mermaid online.
