Fresh from the Farm
For the very first time, The Unique Sheep is offering our handdyed colors on a beautiful, one of a kind yarn from a small local farm. The yarn is a Shetland Wool/ Alpaca blend grown on Rare Find Farm by Lynn Michael in North Carolina. Rare Find Farm is where my own three Shetland Sheep came from. In fact, their fleeces from last year are probably mixed into this yarn! Lynn and her family raise Shetland Sheep and Shetland "Sheltie" Sheep dogs on a small farm near Raleigh, North Carolina. Many of the sheep have been trained by her grandchildren to compete in 4-H and county fair shows and her walls are covered in their rosettes. All of the handling makes them as tame as lapdogs and once you have gained their trust by showing them that you come bearing treats (a bucket full of grain) they will trot right over for scratches, tails wagging! The yarn produced by Rare Find Farm is top quality. It is soft to the touch but still has that unique feel that you look for in yarn from small farms. While lovely in its natural state we are enjoying the opportunity to dye with it. Unfortunately there is only a very limited amount of this yarn available. Lynn's flock can only produce so much--after all Shetland Sheep are very small! So instead of making it available to order on our website we are saving it all for one very special club offering. This is a one-shipment club and you will receive a skein of the Rare Find yarn, a pattern designed by Merike Saarniit to show off the unique qualities of the yarn and an extra goody or two from other local farms. We have a limited amount of this yarn available and this club may sell out, so please order now if you are interested!
Announcements and conversation will take place on the Ravelry group board so please join us there! The designer (Merike Saarniit) and the dyers (Kelly Eells and Laura Lough) will be active on the Ravelry board as well as on Plurk to answer questions about the pattern and cheer you on!
