Maya
Chiapas, Mexico. Summer 2006. Jungles, mountains and small farms. I spent several weeks travelling to remote jungle communities as part of a medical team providing free health clinics to indigenous Mayan communities. Many of our patients had never seen a doctor before; some had never even seen a white person. Though these people are, according to our standards, desperately poor they live surrounded by natural beauty that was hard to believe. My photographs don't begin to capture the richness of the jungle flora, the brilliance of the green plants reflecting the crisp mountain sunlight, the softening of the clouds of mist that would occasionally settle in the valleys, the cool, clean streams perfect for cooling off in the summer heat. |
