Day Break

"Washington, My Home is the State Song.  While there’s so much more to Washington than Mt. Rainier, she is what would greet me every fall.  Living in Los Angeles for 8 years was hard on the mind and body but I would always be reinvigorated by a quick visit home.  When I would make the long drive up the coast, usually in September, October or November, I would always seem to pull in to my parents’ driveway under cover of darkness at midnight.  The next morning, I would rise early and catch the sunrise over my mountain.  The air was always crisp and sweet with the smell of the pine forests and, when the sun was finally up, I could see the leaves in the neighbors’ yards turning the shades of red and gold that I never saw when I was in Los Angeles, just like the sky turns with every sunrise.  Last year, I came home to stay in September.  I still say “Good morning,” to my mountain when ever I see her.  To me, fall means that I am home."
