Imagine a weekend surrounded by the natural beauty of the North Carolina mountains and the company of other knitters. Add to that a couple of llamas, a gently babbling stream and fiber arts workshops. This will be our seventh year at Hawkesdene House, a beautiful, secluded mountain retreat in the North Carolina mountains.
The dates are Sunday April 8 – Wednesday, April 11 and the fee is $900 per person which will include accommodations Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, and meals from Sunday’s dinner through Wednesday’s lunch as well as the workshops! The majority of our rooms are singles, but there is a $100 discount for anyone willing to share a king sized bed with a friend or sleep on one of the numerous sleeper sofas on the estate. Please let us know when you sign up if you have any mobility issues as we only have a limited number of rooms that are accessible without the use of stairs and/or walking over uneven terrain.
The retreat will be in Andrews, NC which is kind of in the middle of nowhere. The closest airports are in Atlanta, GA and Asheville, NC so if you will be flying in please contact us to discuss your travel options. We usually have a couple of people coming into or through each airport and can coordinate carpooling.

We are honored to have guest Instructor Merike Saarnit joining us again this year! Merike is an accomplished artist and well known teacher. She has taught classes in all things that have to do with fiber at shows and conferences all over the world. If you take a workshop with Merike, her relaxed style, patience, and encouraging words make you feel as if “You can do it”. Kelly can attest to this, as Merike taught her how to dye yarn which eventually led to the partnership with Laura in The Unique Sheep! Her background is in the Estonian knitting tradition so she always has something unique to share.
We will also be offering a beading class. After two beautiful bracelets, this year Diane is thinking of doing a pendant.
Keith will be leading us in a relaxed culinary workshop. The theme this year will be CHOCOLATE! We will also have an informal cocktail tasting.
Kelly and Laura will be leading a dyeing workshop where you can dye yarn and roving.
